Wednesday, December 24th, 1969

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 24 – Two missing Ventura County youths are believed to have been members of the psuedo-religious cult ruled by Charles Manson who is charged with directing the murder of movie actress Sharon Tate and seven others.

Hugh Rockie Todd, 15, a Simi Valley High student who was last seen at the Spahn Ranch in the Santa Susana Mountains Oct. 5, was reported missing Dec. 5 by his mother, according to Ventura County sheriff’s records.

Steve Grogan, 18, also of Simi, is sought on a bench warrant since he fled Camarillo State Hospital several months ago, according to authorities. Grogan was reportedly with the Manson group when it moved from the Spahn Ranch to another encampment dear Lone Pine. However, when Los Angeles County sheriff’s department ordered the arrest of all members of the cult on suspicion of the multi-slayings, Grogan had disappeared.

Grogan had been committed to Camarillo State Hospital as a sex offender, authorities said.

Anne Todd, mother of Hugh Rockie Todd, told sheriff’s detectives she lived at the Fountain of the World in Box Canyon where she is a member of the robed cult founded by Krishna Venta, who was killed in an explosion 10 years ago that took the lives of nine other members.

She said her son had gone to the Spahn Ranch to work and that when she went there to pick him up Oct. 5 other members of the Manson cult told her he had left.

Mrs. Todd gave local authorities no reason for waiting two months to file a missing persons report, detectives said. She claimed that she had contacted relatives is North Carolina first to see if her son had shown up there before she came to the local sheriff’s office.

A Los Angeles television station, learning about missing youths being sought by Los Angeles authorities, sent a camera and news crew to see what they could learn. The crew claims to have located what appears to be a grave which they reported to L. A. authorities.

Young Todd, according to his another, is 5-foot-8, weighs 145 and was last seen wearing a striped knit shirt, blue jeans and tan desert boots.
